Privacy Policy

Daogrove (“we”, “us”) is a voice-first tool for practising spoken Mandarin. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the service.

What we collect

  • Your voice, during a practice session. When you start a session, your microphone audio is streamed in real time to Google's Gemini API to power the conversation. We do not record or store your audio on our servers. Live transcripts shown on screen are processed in your browser for the session and are not saved by us.
  • Account and billing information — your email address, account ID, Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, subscription status, and billing period dates. Stripe processes your payment details; we never see or store your full card number.
  • Basic usage analytics — aggregated page and event data via Vercel Analytics, plus visit, device, browser, referral, and interaction data via Google Analytics when you choose “Allow analytics.” Google Analytics is not loaded if you decline.
  • Technical data — your IP address is used transiently for rate limiting and abuse prevention.

Service providers

We share data only with vendors that help us run the service:

  • Google (Gemini API) — real-time voice conversation and scenario generation.
  • Google Analytics — consent-based website usage measurement.
  • Vercel — hosting and anonymous analytics.
  • Upstash — storing waitlist emails, rate-limit counters, and subscription status.
  • Clerk — account sign-in and identity management.
  • Stripe — subscription payments and billing management.

How we use data

To operate and improve the service, respond to you, prevent abuse, and (if you opt in) send product updates. We do not sell your personal data.

Data retention

Voice audio is not retained. Account and subscription records are retained while your account is active and as required for billing, fraud prevention, tax, and legal obligations. Waitlist emails are kept until you ask us to delete them or we no longer need them. Analytics data is retained according to our provider settings and policies.

Analytics choices

Google Analytics is disabled unless you allow it. You can decline or later change your choice using the “Analytics settings” button shown on the site. Your choice is saved in your browser. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising personalization.

Your rights

You can ask us to access or delete your personal data, or unsubscribe from emails, by contacting hello@daogrove.com. Depending on where you live (e.g. EEA/UK/California), you may have additional rights under GDPR or CCPA.

Children

The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
